If you choose to join the notification list, we collect your email address. That is the only personal information we ask you to provide.
Our email service provider may also automatically record limited technical information when you sign up, such as the date and time of your subscription and the IP address you submitted it from. This is standard for email services and is used only to operate the list securely.
Why we collect it and how we use it
We use your email address to send you a small number of launch-related emails about Spike's Big Roar, such as a reminder that the release is coming and a notification when the book is available. We will not send you ongoing newsletters or general marketing emails, and we will not add you to any other mailing list. You can unsubscribe at any time.
We also use information about our subscribers to understand our audience and reach similar people through advertising. Specifically, we may share a hashed (irreversible) version of your email address with advertising platforms such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google to build "custom" and "lookalike" audiences, so we can show our ads to people with similar interests. Hashing means the platform receives a scrambled value, not your actual email address. We will never sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
Who we share it with
Your email address is stored and processed by trusted third-party service providers that we use to operate our notification list: Netlify (Netlify Forms), which stores the sign-ups you submit through this website, and MailerLite, which we use to store our subscriber list and send the launch notification on our behalf. These providers process your information under their own privacy and security terms and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Aside from the advertising platforms described above (which receive only a hashed, scrambled version of your email address), we do not disclose your personal information to any third party, except where required or authorised by law.
Where your information is stored
Depending on our email service provider, your information may be stored on servers located outside Australia (for example, in the United States or the European Union). By subscribing, you consent to your email address being stored and processed overseas for the purpose described above. We take reasonable steps to use providers that maintain appropriate security and privacy standards.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as we need it for the purposes described above: to send the launch notification and to maintain our advertising audiences. You can ask us to delete your details and remove you at any time (see "Your choices and rights" below), and we will action your request promptly. We also review our list periodically and remove contacts we no longer need.
Cookies, analytics, and advertising
This website uses your browser's local storage to remember small things, such as whether you have already seen the sign-up pop-up, so you are not shown it repeatedly. This information stays in your browser.
We may also use advertising and analytics tools such as the Meta pixel (Facebook and Instagram) to understand how visitors find and use the site and to measure and improve our advertising on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Google. This website and Spike's Big Roar are aimed at parents, caregivers, educators, and professionals (that is, adults). The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, including by using reputable service providers. However, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
